The Lullaby
Refusing to close
My eyes stay wide open
Very still
Looking at something beyond.
Far across the seas
I hear a sweet voice
Carried to me with the waves
From the depth of the ocean.
She sings in a rhythm
That is cajoling and pulling
Makes me forget my worries
My eyes close relaxing.
I hear them come to me
As hushes in the winds
Drugging me into silence
No reason to stay awake.
I know not
If my mother has sung for me
To make me sleep
Surely she has taught me
To love music very deep.
