All That Glitters Is Not Gold

It's a well known proverb. The same translates in Tamil as ‘Minnuvathellam pon alla’.
Is it a warning or an advice? It definitely has something to say. Like a monolith that encompasses a magnanimous art, the single line contains within it an extensive meaning.

Not very far
Something catches my attention
As bright as gold
Glittering in the Sun.

‘All that glitters is not gold’. So then what is it? It could be a diamond or a ruby?!? Yes, you never know how you underestimate something precious that is right in front of you.

I see it
A glowing entity
Sealed within its beauty.

‘Value’ is what we give. It is external and manmade. But quality and characteristics are inherent and natural. ‘What it is made of’ does not easily change but the value can at any time be changed because it is an attachment to the original.

It could be a feather that shines
Or a scale of a fish
A small piece of somebody’s cherished mirror
A child’s hand painted shell.
They are all keepsakes
Whether gold or not
But definitely glittering.
