Way Out
I bang against the thin door
Swiftly moving my fists high up
There is no way out
Seems like it’s firmly locked
I can spot no bolt.
Repeatedly I keep trying
It sucks the energy out of me
Drains the colour from my face
In confusion I stare into space
And wonder how to put it in place.
Hesitant of what I’m looking for
Am I behind or in front of a wrought iron gate?
Invisible that it is
But holds me back
Every time I try to overcome.
It’s not so much like
Gateway to freedom
But a ‘why’ nags in my mind
Trying to find
No doubt – a way out.
