Exempt The Expectations

How eagerly the mind unfolds
Willingly waiting
To absorb all that it has hoped for.
It only takes a moment
To recoil in a thorough disgust
When reality differs
To instantly
Collapse the illusive tower.

In between my jog on International Women’s day I stopped at one of the refreshments counter. On a white tablecloth innumerable white cups were laid beside each other very neatly similar to an art form by Rob of M.A.D. I needed the water in the cups to just suffice the idea of getting thirsty. I noticed that a few cups were unfilled and so looked for one not brimming but adequately filled with water. When I spotted one and very quickly took a gulp I realized that it was not water.

How conditioned one can be
Just from the inside
With no external influence
Though just for a moment
All preconceived notions
Can be flattened with no position
If it doesn’t meet the condition.

I could feel the muscles on my face distorting involuntarily showing distaste. I reminded myself that it was not water but lime juice - a very sweet and tasty and tangy lime juice. It’s after all one of my well liked juices, so why the hatred?

How simple it sounds
But how complicated it can get
Unmet expectations
Can at times
Paint a distraught picture.
Nevertheless it’s beauty
Will not go unseen
With a conscious effort
Taken in the mind
Of expecting to expect the unexpected.
